Abraham Berenblut
May 2005. I received from the archives in Lublin a copy of the
1886 marriage registration of "Abraham and Sura Berenblat".
The first names fit, but bernblAt ?
I scanned the documents for the surname, and it is not clear. Is it BerenblAt or is it BerenblUt. Is it ours or is it not?
I skip to the bottom of the document searching for the signature. Sometimes they are in Hebrew, but no luck this time. I ask my friend, who translates the documents for me, to find the signature. He says that in Russian it is clearly BerenblUt. Got it !
In June 2005 I received a letter from Antwerp City Registrar. It shed some more light on the family as detailed below.
Till now, the two branches of our Berenblut family had no common roots. One came to Antwerp from Warsaw, the other immigrated to London from Lublin. These two sources made the first connection. They both states that Abraham Berenblut was born in Warsaw. So now we have a little clearer picture of our family.
Abraham Berenblut was born in Warsaw (or Warszawa in Polish) around 1864 to Moszka and Chana Feige Nee Strunsman (or Szwarcman?). This it the first time we know her name !
In 1886 he lives in a village next to Lublin, Poland, and in 1886 in Lublin he marries Sura Ety (Nee Pentkovski from Lublin), but it is not known when he left Warsaw.
Abraham and Sara had one son in Lublin, Max
Michael. Details
They lived and Kielce, Poland and moved to Antwerp, Belgium on June 11,
1912. They later continued to London, England where they lived the rest
of their lives, where Max established a family and had 3 boys.
Only in June
2005 I finally collected enough documents from Warsaw and Lublin, among
them was the Marriage registration of
Moshe Berenblut with
Chana Anna Feige Strunsman. The registration
included the names of Moshe's parents and thus providing the exact family connection to the
other branches of the family (from Antwerp and Paris).
At the same time we found for the first time the names of our ancestors
Icek & Elka.
Below is a copy the Marriage registration, written in Russian, found in the Historical archives in Lublin through the wonderful work done by jri-pl (Jewish Record Indexing- Poland) organization (www.jewishgen.org/jri-pl).
Translations to English and Hebrew are available further below.
